The Institute for Literary Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences organised a workshop on 23 November 2018 on applied anthropological aesthetics around 1800. The event was held at the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in two parts. The conference presentations focused on the contemporary applications of the Central European theories of aesthetics at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, followed by book launches in the afternoon.

The conference presentations were given, among others, by Botond Csuka, Márton Szilágyi, Gergely Fórizs, Carsten Zelle and Tomáš Hlobil. During the afternoon, Sandra Richter’s book (Eine Weltgeschichte der deutschprachigen Literatur) was launched by Magdolna Orosz (Eötvös Loránd University) and Tomáš Hlobil’s book (Geschmacksbildung im Nationalinteresse. Die Anfänge der Prager Universitätsästhetik im mitteleuropäischen Kulturraum 1763–1805; Geschmacksbildung im Nationalinteresse II. Der Abschluss der frühen Prager Universitätsästhetik im mitteleuropäischen Kulturraum 1805–1848) by Piroska Balogh (Eötvös Loránd University). The volume edited by our colleague, Piroska Balogh and Gergely Fórizs (Anthropologische Ästhetik in Mitteleuropa 1750–1850) was launched by László Kontler (CEU).
